The price of the OEM replacement plugs is ridiculous. If you have an AS1 70C, the expanding rubber dipstick assembly is probably not the original one.

70C was discontinued before they eliminated the screw-in dipstick.

I fabricate a replacement dipstick from a 3/4" brass pipe plug and a 1/4" stainless steel rod for the "stick" part. You take out the stub of 3/4" pipe and hand-tighten my stick into the threaded hole. I put a T-handle on the plug to make it easier to screw in and out. I sell these for $35.

Brian,
I pulled that picture off McMasters site. They have plenty of expanding plugs in several different styles and even in stainless.

I hope in the contract disclosure you informed the new owner that the d*ck Pope Cypress Gardens Nautique was not an original boat anymore. Now I wonder if you sold it or more likely was taken away------

I replaced my trans dipstick with a new one from Ski-dim or AKA discount inboard marine over six years ago. However, I can not remember why I did it. I do know that I kept the old dip stick. I can dig it out pretty easily and see if it is OK if you are interested . Send me a message at tilley166@bellsouth.net and I can send you a picture of a 1980 version.

Ski Dim sells them but they are pricey.

Thanks Pete. I was thinking of something on that order. Is that something that someone local would carry?

Brian,
Some of the Velvets came through with a modified expanding plug. They fastened a dip stick to the bottom. If you can't find a B/W original, maybe you can do something with one of these:

Anyone have a dipstick for a AS1-70C Velvet Drive trans that is in decent shape? the rubber on the one I have is pretty much gone. If you know where to get a replacement that would be great as well.
Thanks,
Brian
