I got the new ring gear in today. The flywheel went in the freezer and I heated the ring with MAP gas. It literally dropped on:

awww man, I was counting on the map gas to get the job done.
Thanks, I had searched flywheel but not ring gear. 157 is the count. I'll cancel the order... I'll check around this afternoon maybe someone will have one. Is there a downside to the ring flip? If cleaning and map gas wont work I guess I'm waiting anyway. |

I believe that the 501 (164 tooth) is the wrong ring gear... You want the 503 (157 tooth).

Paul,
I'd count the teeth to be sure. The water won't hurt but for a short run I don't feel it's needed. |

I was hoping to get my engine in this weekend but I had a few hold-ups. 1.) I need a new ring gear on my flywheel. '73 - 351W Tonight I tried Ford Mustang Mach I with 5.8L 4bbl on Amazon and it says it matches the ZA-501 I saw where Watauga changed his (page 4) but I'm just not sure if the Amazon one is the right size. Anyone else done this? 2.) Also I was thinking, when I go to start this thing there will be no water in the block. Should I pop out the temperature sender and pour in a gallon or so beforehand? Thanks, Paul |
