I'd probably avoid the stripes with the heavier compound, and go easy on them with the polish- should shine right up. |

If the paint is dull well then it too deserves a buff. Go easy on the paint though, it's thinner and softer than gelcoat.

My 82 has almost no shine to it. I plan on going over the gelcoat with some rubbing compound and finishing polish. Should I tape over the stripes so I don't go over those? Is there any way to brighten those up, or is repainting the only method?
