Brian,
Do as Rob suggests but I have a feeling he's correct that a rebuild is needed. Since the slippage has been happening for some time, the clutch plates are most likely warped from being overheated.

.Check your trans fluid. These small trannys can be sensitive to the proper fluid level. When was the last time that the fluid was changed? The most likely scenario is that the tranny needs to be rebuilt (or replaced). Do a search or 2 and you will find a lot of information on this site regarding transmission issues and solutions.

I have a 1975 Correct Craft 18' Southwind, 350 Chevy v8, bought it 3 years ago. Love the boat. The transmission has always had an intermittent slipping problem...as in idling along and the slips out of gear, this year the slippage has gotten worse and now under load, trying to get skier up or with extra pounds of people on stern seat to the point that could not get a deep water start on slalom ski for competent skier. Any thoughts on what the problem might be and possible resolution?
