Yeah, often in haste, frustration or ego, we shortchange those who have read the story with earnest only to have the author disappear before the ending.

Yup, marketing and engineering departments have always had differences!

Couldn't agree more with you Peter! Even happens very often (on a much smaller scale) on this site... some one presents a problem with their boat, we offer suggestions/possible solutions then the OP is never heard from again until his next personal challenge.

I don't know how others feel, but one of my pet peeves is when a commercial establishment goes on line to publish their big engineering challenge--gets everyone excited, puts hundreds of hours of very interesting project work on YouTube or just photos of really interesting progress, then disappears when somehow the results either don't stack up or the project turns out to be a dismal failure. One example that comes to mind was the Duramax 8.1/Mastercraft X-80 experiment. These guys put oodles of cool stuff in place, asked the community for suggestions, got the thing seaworthy apparently (not really known), and at the fine-tuning phase of picking propellers and setting engine parameters, they just disappear. No "well, top speed was 40mph at 3300 RPM's and fuel consumption was "X" GPH--- nope. Ok, I'm finished with my OT rant. Does this stuff drive the rest of you crazy too?
