Reduction transmissions are torque multipliers.   That's why 1.5:1 v-drives use 1-1/8" shafts. Small block 1.23 direct drives had 1" shafts from cc (6.0L included) and are low enough output not to twist shafts. Python direct drives got 1-1/8" due to the extra torque of the big block. HO 454 would need the larger shaft for the same reason. Joe has found the limit of the 1" with his 408w/1.23.

Zach, joes motor may be built on a small block but it has more displacement than many big blocks... Cubes = torque and torque = twist.

Well, Joe twists the 1" with the small block given his makes insane power but factor in big block torque multiplied by the 1.23 and there we go.

Is that because of the 1.23 trans? I remember when Reid dropped that big motor in his Shamrock,the PCM guys said he'd be fine but a bunch of guys on the Shamrock site told him he'd twist the shaft with that combo. As far as I know he never did.

Agreed on speed with above. I have a Stock 330HP 80 That runs 53.7 with an aftermarket prop. Would love to see an actual 425 HP that is original.

Agree with joe on the numbers, that's what I've seen as well. At least an early (pre-87) 2001.

Seems right on the money.

Buck said it has a nice lean when you're in it by yourself but it's fine with a passenger to the side.

Too bad they were dealer installed. They could have changed the hull hook to compensate some for the LH HO motor. A real treat would be to swap In a new 1.23 and change props.

It is a believable number In my experience

I have found optimally propped with a ski boat prop

45 is about right for 240 hp

47-48 is about right for a 290 ish hp

50ish is about right for 330 hp with a 2001

54ish is about right for 425 hp with a 2001

Look for '86 boats in the For Sale section. The CCF site automatically shows you the average asking price, the maximum, minimum, and where the boat you clicked on sits. I just found a 1986 and the range is $3,000 to $16,000 and the average is $8,845. That's a good starting point. For boats this old NADA and such are not worth much. A boat of this vintage is "worth" what one person is willing to sell it for and some other person is willing to pay.

Most likely a RH 330hp (or at least it would have been originally) but anything is possible.

425 HO's featured roller cams, rectangle heads, dual feed 800cfm Holleys (presumably mech secondary?) and were LH only. Details on these engines are scarce, all of what I know was learned second hand from Tom (Gottaski) and Craig Warner (of NECC). I understand they were mostly dealer installs. Only a few have popped up in the last few years, it's anyone's guess as to how many were originally made. Rare birds indeed.

Yeah, I've only ever actually confirmed one real HO motor which resides in an 86 with its original owner in Michigan.

Look in the reference section under Engine Manuals. In the PCM Manual, you will find information on engine tag numbers. Have the owner snap a pic and you'll know what they've got.... but like has been said, odds are it is a RR (330 HP) K or S, (not N) model.

that's wear I head it hollywood, a friend has an 86 ho model but he didn't know of the 87 and up models are they worth more then the 351 models any ideas ???

I have not heard of any 454 HOs after 1986. There is always a possibility but the chances of an uninformed owner is far greater...

High all! received a call last night from a lady in Ohio that has a 1988 big block 454 Chevy ski nautiqueis it true that they had two versions of the big block in these boats one Higher horsepower than the otherand I also heard that one is right rotation in the other is left rotation posting Big Blocks is that trueplease let me know what you think the value might be in this boat it looks pretty clean has a crack on the top deck in the back corner by the rear seat which I think it's comon on those it's also has a wake tower put on it
