The boat is in the water.

I will check the pickup tube and also the possibility of rebuilding it.

I bewlieve what you are calling the water/fuel seperator is actually just a reservior to store any fuel that gets past a ruptured diaphram. In other words, it takes the place of the clear vinyl hose to the spark arrestor on newer boats.

Does your fuel pump have a bunch of screws holding it together? If yes, then your pump is rebuildable. Most of those older marine pumps are rebuildable.

Now, if no fuel in that reservoir, then your pump is probably working, but you have a fuel restriction somewhere else. Most likely in the fuel tank pickup tube somewhere. Pull the elbow/tube out of the top of the tank and clean it out. Replace your fuel filter. Do the pump into a jar test.

Is this boat in the water, or do you have water going to the raw pump?

It doesn't sound like the fuel pump to me, I would pull the line and check the pressure, or minimum do a dump into a measuring cup test before I went too far down the fuel pump road.

Hello Everyone -

First time posting here - I have a 73' Mustang CC with the 302. This year we rebuilt the carb (Holley) and di points and plugs etc. To get it started today I gave one shot of ether and it ran for a bit and stalled, another shot ran for a bit longer and then died. On the third shot it stayed running. I then shut it off for approximately 3 minutes and it wouldn't start again. I didn't try ether but I'm pretty sure it would have started.

My question is: does this sound like fuel pump to you? Currently I have the steel water/fuel seperator directly below the pump. If I were to replace the pump do they still make one with the seperator? Currently my spark arrestor does not have the vent for the "new" types of fuel pump. How do I handle that? What about a rebuild kit for this?

Any help would be much appreciated!
