Hmm, Not sure if my shop vac will pull enough vacuum, but I'll give it a try!

My SN does have a drain hose. But I'm getting old and I don't like crawling under the boat on rough pavement (which is also wet from warming up the engine). The oil change has to be done out on the street for me so I can't just let it drain overnight either (my driveway is sloped too much).. Bought the Pela Oil pump primarily for draining my transmission when warm with the boat on the water. Switching the trans oil to Dex/Merc ATF is up next.

Switched to Mobil 1 and got a better filter too. CCFan is awesome. So much information. Makes it so much easier to do it myself!

Kelson,
Oil drain hoses work great!! as long as the boat is out of the water.    Better than sucking.

I use a 5 gal bucket with a lid. I have a drain on the bottom of my oil pan and I attach a hose from that to the bucket. The line goes at least half way down in the bucket. I attach a small shop vac thru a hole in the lid and let the vac do all the work. It works great for what it cost me.Make sure all your holes in the bucket are sealed good. Im sure you could do the same thru the dip stick tube.

I picked up a pump/reservoir to change my oil with. I figured it would be slow with the narrow tube that goes into the dipstick tube, but I got really tired of pumping to keep the vacuum up. So I attached an oil/water separator for an air wrench onto the hose from my vacuum pump and Mc Gyvered a fitting for the pump attachment point. Sliced a piece out of an old boat hose and then wrapped it in electrical tape to seal and attach it to the oil/water separator. The "fitting" sealed really well when pushed onto the one way valve. Turned on my vacuum pump and worked on other things while it sucked my old oil out. Looks awful, but worked great.

I'm thinking I might buy a cheap Harbor Freight vacuum pump to use for this rather than my expensive auto cycling vacuum system that I use to bag carbon fiber laminates. Anyone have any experience with HF vacuum pumps? Hold up for you?
