Made new gunnel pads today. They turned out great! Took a 2 mistakes to get my knife method down but was pretty easy and cheap. Used rubber cove base. http://www.homedepot.com/p/ROPPE-Pinnacle-Rubber-Black-4-5-in-x-1-8-in-x-48-in-Wall-Cove-Base-30-Pieces-45CR1P100/205426804. I actually used 4" but recommend 4.5". The 4" just barely makes the cut with the bend accounted for. The local Home Depot sold it for $3.14 for a 48" section. Not having to buy a whole case sure made it nice and cheap. I bought 4 and messed up 2 learning my knife skills. Thought I would share for those with an older Nautique and messes up gunnel pads. All of the ends of mine were coming up and one end was cut off. Taping the old pad to the new material and using good hand pressure on the old panel to keep the edge down while sliding the knife was key.
