I forgot to mention if you do glue it back on, make sure you use a glue that wont soften when warm. I may or may not have made that mistake.....

I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Did same thing on my 76' SN. Its just a fiberglass box with some padding on it. The foam padding is glued to the fiberglass and not to the vinyl so you should be able to remove, make repairs and reinstall.

i have a 1980 nautique, can i peel the engine cover vinyl off to re-stich a seam then glue it back on?
