My son, who was a teenager at the time, did it to mine when a friend of his jumped out of the boat when it was going and got his leg tangled up in the ske rope. I know a real stupid stunt, but that is what youth is for, learning. Any way he is now 32 and the boat is still going fine with no problems in any area of the drive train.

One thing to now look out for though, when I first got the boat back in 89 I was getting a real loud bang sound coming from the engine when the rpm went up to about 2500. It was very strange and no one could determine what the problem was. It sounded like the engine was coming apart, but at idle it was still fine. Well the engine was old any way so I picked up a new one and when I split the transmission from the engine I found what was causing the noise. The springs from the damper plate were flying off and smashing into the bell housing. So keep that in mind in the future. By the way the old damper was fairly rusted.

Having witnessed a 454 slam into reverse in the course when the towrope flew around the drivers neck and morse control, without harm, I'd say your ok.

That kinda sounds like to much fluid.

When I was about 15 I jerked my boat into rev really quick. I broke all the springs in the damper plate. The trans was fine. From what I have seen the damper plate will give out before any major trans damage.

Anythings possible but only time will tell....

On the transmission discussion... Mine seemed to "diesel" a little bit this weekend. It was knocking quite a bit when in Neutral and I think I wanna say I added a little fluid last time it did this as it was a little low. Could I have added to much or not enough or do I need to tweak it a little bit (if possible)? Anyone else experience this annoyance?

More likely damage to the damper plate.
