On boats that were routed towards the front, the throttle cable was routed under the engine and then to the carb from the rear, hence the same length as the shift cable.

On 16' boats that routed under the floor, throttle cable attached from the front and was 2' shorter than the shift cable (10'/12').

Based on those facts, I would guess you want 15' and 17' cables if you retain the front mount throttle cable. But keep in mind that the bends will be fairly tight and may bind. It's a custom install so make sure you measure your specific boat. Be sure that the control can accommodate your planned routing- I am not sure anyone has specifiCally tried it before. Routing the cables forwards vs towards the rear will require you to change the set up of the backing plate and levers.

They previously ran aft and were routed under the floor just behind the drivers seat and went into the bilge, I want to run them fwd through the conduit with the steering cable and wiring harness.

So where are you planning to route them?

Hi all, I have a 72 mustang and am wanting to run the control cables forward, due to the fact that I didn't make a provision for running them under the floor after the stringer job. I searched here And found some posts that both shift and throttle cables should be 17'. My thinking was the shift cable should be longer since it has to go about another two feet past the carb to reach the selector on the trans. Anyone run into this?
