mine was solid and its a florida boat,. the issue will be what is it attached to that you cant see.BTW its a 1980
my 1980 SN is mad at my 2009 HD

Mine looked like Duanes. The strap snapped right off when I tried to unscrew the ring. Florida boat, consider the source.

The general rule is they will be fine- on an 82 unless the boat was super duper salty and abused I would be shocked to find the rings compromised… get under and take a look if you get a chance but you should be fine.

Bow bracket on my Mustang 17 when I removed the foam.

Stu,
Drill some small holes into the wood backing glassed in for the lifting ring mounting and look for any rot. Also, check for severely corroded metal components.
