To help understand your squeal problem, I thought I'd clarify some boat terminology.
Skag: A slang term for recreational drugs or heroin.
Skeg: A downward facing fin to aid in hull tracking.
Strut: The aft support for the prop shaft.
Cutlass bearing: A bushing in the strut that the prop shaft runs on. Typically a water lubricated rubber, phenolic or plastic.
Gland: The housing where the shaft rope packing is compressed. making a semi watertight seal at the prop shaft. This is typically attached to the log via a short rubber hose.
Log: A attachment point for the shaft gland and where the prop shaft exits the hull. Typical in our boats, this is a bronze casting that's glassed into the hull.

Squealing usually comes from bad/overtight packing. Just too clarify, this squealing is when the boat is in the water correct? Struts always squeal out of the water.

Sounds like the shaft is squeaking where it goes through the skag. I recently replaced the prop shaft and put new bushings in the skag. Why is it squeaking? Feels as if it's too tight but everything I've read said to make it tight. Do I need packing? If so, what?
