Duane,
Yes, the PCM needs it's own plate due to the number of splines. It's a shame since the Sachs plates spring pocket design is by far superior. It uses a flat bottom spring seating area whereas others like the PCM, the seating area is formed by a stamped steel pocket that isn't flat. I don't have to tell you what happens to a square wire die spring that doesn't sit on a flat surface!!!!

I replaced the damper in my '89 when it had about 400 hours on it. If I remember correctly there is a old and new version of the plate. The '89 had the old version and supposedly it doesn't last as long.   My '92 has 1500 hours on it and I have not replaced the damper or think that it needs to be replaced. I suspect it has the newer version. I agree that since your engine is out it's a good time to replace it but you may be fine just using the old one. Also, it isn't that hard to pull the trans and swap it out if it needs it later down the road.

Try "World Wide Parts Outlet" I paid $ 67 .50 for mine, now up to $104 in just 9 months. They are on e-bay. Very helpful when you call them. Mine is an Alto Sachs. Good brand.
Keep it as original as YOU want it

Bummer....   I did notice the 15 spline notation on Skidim. I was thinking that Tim's $80 1:1 damper sounded like something to just throw in so I don't have to pull the trans when it goes out...

Kris,
Due to the number of splines on the input shaft on the PCM trans, the damper plate is made to match so, I feel you are stuck with the one NP or Skidim sells. I think lots of OEM's learned from the razor manufacturers to sell blades that only match their razor and sell the blades at a high markup!!    I remember Eric when he had FFM always complaining about having to go PCM parts when he worked on one of their tran's!!

Hi guys,
I want to put in a new damper plate with my new engine...   Skidim and NP both have them listed, but I was hoping for a less expensive option like Ebasic Power.   Does anyone know which damper I need from Ebasic?   It looks like the PCM40A (1.23:1) damper plate is not listed, unless I missed something.
