Wondering, is this one of those Apex PCM Chevies?

That would be a little bit different from the usual, they are pretty rare. This page has a pic of one towards the top right:

If your distributor is an HEI unit with integrated coil, then you won't find an external coil or resistor. Assuming a non HEI distributor, find the coil and locate the + input. Trace the wire back to the ballast resistor. Not all applications run a ballast resistor, but most do.

Hi Jonny Quest, Cannot locate the resistor. Do you think my 96 with EFI has one? I remember my 89 had one. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

                         Thanks

Thanks,I will check those items. Cap,wires and plugs new this year. I'm wondering if the coil gets hot and does not put out enough volts for spark.

I would check the following:
- VOM to check 12V to ballast resistor
- wires to coil and ballast resistor
- coil wire to distributor
- Distributor cap & rotor

Heat and moisture can play havoc on electrical connections.

96 Nautique PCM 5.7. This is the 1st full season with this boat. It's always started and ran fine. Yesterday after running the boat on and off for a couple of hrs. I was idling at the dock
and the motor stopped. Would not restart. Checked a plug wire no spark. Checked for loose connections, found none. The boat sat for maybe 10-15min. Started and ran fine.??????

                                       Thanks
