I looked more closely at the shifter. The one in the thread seems to be a prior generation. I lubricated it liberally and I still feel some grinding. The plates that move the cables are on top of each other. The grinding seems to be coming from the plates, as if a nylon washer or something else is worn out or missing.

I'd stay away from the WD 40.....works pretty good for loosening things up but after time it gets gummy. There are better products.

Lube the ends if your cables with WD 40 or a similar mild penetrating lube.

The grinding usually comes from the cables not the Control.

If that doesn't help proceed to the link Pete posted.

My shifter feels like it is grinding when it is moved into forward and reverse. It is a "CONTROL SINGLE MV TELEFLEX" per Nautique Parts. Any thoughts on the cause? Can I get parts or a rebuild kit for it?
