The best one word description I can give of the system when used in an inboard was "unnerving"
Thought it was broken or had some kind of friction adjustment that I couldn't find. A friend with an outboard took it off my hands with a big smile on his face, then he educated me about NFB steering. Worked just fine in his outboard and had a much better feel to it. Probably why it's advertised as an outboard steering system. In the outboard it didn't have that "oh crap my steering just locked up" feel to it KenO |

Eric,
The steering is a new one on me! Sorry for the confusion The old saying that you can learn something every day of your life and still die stupid is true. I need to spend more time driving outboards! Here's a video on the NFB steering. |

Gotta agree with planejob on the steering type.
No feedback steering. It acts just as Eric described it. Some people like it, some don't. Had a boat with that setup, still have the boat but got rid of that NFB setup, I guess you can figure out which group of people I was in KenO |

I read about a steering system like yours. It was the Teleflex Saf-t Steering system. It was a feature.
DO you think that's what you've got? |

Eric, I agree with Chris. Cables have been know to snap while underway resulting in violent turns. Do find out what the problem is before using it again. I feel the PO is giving you some BS or truly doesn't know what he's talking about. BTW, real nice find. |

Eric,
Todd's suggestion above is sound in that cables do bind up however before you R&R the cable, disconnect the cable at the helm and then at the tiller arm on the rudder to determine what's binding. Welcome to CCfan. We'd love to see some pictures. Diary entries are always welcomed too. |

I bought a 78 SN 3 weeks ago boat was a barn find it is in great shape. It only has 140 hrs on a new Motor and trans that was put in in 1999. I bought it from the original owner, he told me it had what was called a "Roll Lock" stearing? anyone know what this is? When I drive the boat I can let go of the wheel and it stays in place and you have to turn it hard to unlock the wheel then it is fine until you let it set back in to place. Hope this makes since any thoughts on this?
thanks much Easyyelp |
