289 block water channels / flow

OK,   upon further review......

The petcock drain is in a freeze/casting plug.   I honestly cannot say why I left this when I re-did the engine a few years ago. Convenience is the only thing I can think of.   The actual drain plug is forward, as stated by Kevin earlier.    It was a square headed plug, assuming 7/16" or 3/8". Neither of which I own. I put a nice small 12pt on it, but being a 1/4" drive I had no leverage. Then I put a 3/8" drive 12pt on it, and promptly rolled the corners.... I finally ended up getting it out via a bunch of other ill-fitting tools, and techniques. I replaced with a standard 9/16" brass plug like on the other side.    
I am questioning actually re-adding the pink stuff after draining.   Not going to do it today, but if there is a consensus that I should, I will do it before we freeze.   What came out of the starboard side was nice and pink.    

Kicking myself in the nuts from 6-7 years ago for not replacing the plug then.........

Not a hard freeze yet but 1 to 3 inches of snow predicted tonight north of the twin cites. Frost warnings overnight for us in northern Wi.

It's always great to hear from you! Yes, just as others have mentioned, get that petcock out to fully drain that side of the block. Chris's drain only idea will work if you don't have the time to completely start over.

That pink stuff dilutes pretty easily I believe, time for a do over.

Hey Mike good to hear from you. Why didn't you just treat the stuck petcock like a plug and remove to drain?

One side will get most of it out but not all. The starboard plug is closer to the front of the engine right? This is in your favor, more water will drain out the port plug if it is closer to the back. The AF you sucked in won't push the water out, it mixes. You've diluted the AF but not enough to hurt it IMO. What is the freeze protection on the AF you started with?

Have a question regarding the 289 in the Mustang.    I was in a hurry to winterize this year due to some extenuating circumstances.    The PO had a petcock valve in place of the drain plug on the starboard side. I never replaced it as it worked fine. Well, I ran the boat to op temp,   trailered, and went to drain the block, exhaust, blow out the heater hose, etc.   The plug on the port side is just a plug and I drained that. Went to the starboard petcock and it has failed, stuck shut.   I let everything drain from port, blew out the heater, etc.    I then did the bucket pink AF fill and shut her down.    
My question is:   is the engine able to completely drain from one side? As mentioned, it was at operating temp 15 minutes before I ran the AF in.   I am making an assumption that even if not, the AF would have gone in, and pushed the water out with the thermostat being warm.   We are quite a ways from freezing here yet, but want to replace the petcock, and re-do it if a few of you think I should.    I am not much of a motor head, and am unclear on the water channel flow / connection within the block.
