replaced my 95 cable in ???? I think about 2010. 100% worth the money.

I have the same question as Pete. Why aren't they better than this?

Yeah but the changeover can get pretty expensive!

Mine is still smooth and easy so luckily I've never had to go through that changeover!

Actually I was just talking out my arse. Mine keeps getting better over time and we're still going strong.

I have heard tell of a local guy removing the cable (intact) and placing into a sweat box to soften up the old grease and salvaging additional years of use (this is not the same guy that has modified the blade of his paddle). If you are going through all that effort perhaps it is time to replace

I had to replace the one in the Shamrock this year too Pete,it had a date stamped on it of '94. I had changed the 95's when it was 19. The Mustangs, which turned out to be the original one I changed for the piece of mind. It froze up every winter but would thaw out and work fine every spring. It turned out to have several sheath cracks. I cut the end off the 95 to see just what was going on. Cable was perfect but the lubricant was dry and gummy. Same with the Shamrock when I cut it open. Teleflex/Seastar must have changed what lubricant they use. Don't know if it's needed or not but I always change the seal on the support tube too. Maybe they can't get whale oil anymore??

The steering cable problem requiring replacements comes up frequently . I sure would like to know why and when CC started using what seems to me inferior quality cables. My 77 CC cable and even my 64 in the X55 are fine and still work smoothly!!!
