Assuming his vision is good and the oil isn't actually way up the dipstick. I've seen this happen...

Ford did have problems with bad PCV valves in the late 99-2000's Change it with a new Motorcraft one. Dad was going thru a quart in 600 miles on his Lincoln.
Your brothers work order is very similar to dads car, they would change the oil mark the stick and off he would go. It never lost oil around town but when traveling at 70+. The dealer then told him 1qt in 600 was normal! Don't remember how we decided to change it but it was not thru the dealer,I might have found it out thru a magazine the internet being too new yet. |

This is probably a long shot, but we have friends with a new to them '85 SN last summer that has a good running, non oil using 240 hp PCM. It all of a sudden dropped a huge amount of oil and they came close to wrecking the engine. Come to find out, they were not taking the advice to let the engine warm up before running fast, and with straight 30W, it was consuming the oil quickly when cold. They modified their behavior and have not had any oil consumption since.

My brother has a stunningly nice 2001 Sport out west in northern CA. His boat has been consuming a large amount of oil but without a lot of obvious evidence as to what it could be. No obvious plumes of smoke or burning oil smell behind the boat, no oil in the bilge.
He had it checked out at his boat mechanic and they didn't find anything conclusive either. Where the hell could the oil be going? Type/brand of oil unknown since he has a mechanic at the harbor change it. I told him to try some 20W50 VR1 and then report back. Any other ideas? |
