Here's a little advice from a newbie for what it's worth.
Ignition switch. First make sure it's the right switch with the same number of connectors/wires as your original. Then I would take your wires off your current switch ONE AT A TIME and connect them to the proper terminal on your new switch. Is it a 3-way (off/start/run) or 4-way (off/start/run/accessory) switch? If the new one is identical to your old one... switching 'em out should be a breeze. On adjusting your tranny cable... I'd do a search, or look in a manual. Is it a Borg Warner Velvet Drive? If so... I believe it's as simple as disconnecting the linkage at the tranny... then finding the "neutral detent" at the lever on the tranny... then adjusting the cable accordingly. Please don't take my advice as gospel cause I'm just learning this stuff. But it might help get you started. My advice... take things slow. One thing at a time. mark, label, or take pictures of everything before you start taking things apart. Hope that helps. Joe |

Everyone, this is my first post, so forgive me if it is repetetive. I have a 98 Nautique that is tricky to start. That is the first problem. the ignition switch broke this past weekend while I was trying to start the boat. The key will turn 360 degrees now in the ignition. I have ordered a new ign. switch from SkiDim.com. I am guessing all I need to do is unplug the battery and then take the old switch out and put the new one in. Is that correct?
Second, I beleive my linkage is off. When I put the boat in nuetral it makes a grinding noise. I can find nuetral however by moving the throttle a hair forward out of the traditional nuetral position. Any thoughts on how to fix this? Please help, I can't find a mechanic in my area (Lake Wylie South Carolina). Thanks, EM |
