There used to be a company on the 'net called gary's upholstery supplies they were great with helping out with marine vinyls. Seems they have sold out to these guys-factorydirectfabrics.com might be worth talking to them maybe they can get something to match

You can certainly find something close. Problem is sun/time and wear have all altered what originally came in your boat. Take a sample from behind the seat that wasn't exposed as much as the other vinyl. Call around and find a vinyl supplier in your area. You should have some around you. They will have tons of sample in books to look at. You can match color as close as possible- but try to match the grain even more closely. All you need is marine grade vinyl. They have all kinds of grades out there. Do not be fooled that more is better. I found a marine grade/hospital grade vinyl that was overkill. Simply need marine grade. Buy it- then find someone local who will sew it. Back seats should run in $600-$800 range ( that's what I just paid)

Thanks. I will replace the whole rear seat so it won't be a patch.
Appears to be some type of oil or hydraulic fluid that leaked on it. |

Got a quote from Christine's but have heard mixed reviews. Lead time is also 90 days and would have to send them the seats since they don't have a pattern. Can get it done locally, just trying to find out more info on the vinyl I should use.

William,
I highly doubt you will be able to match the color. Even if you find the new in the original color, the 32 years have I'm sure faded your original vinyl. I'd say if you want it to not look like a patch, you need to do the complete aft seat. BTW, the upholsterer will know what was used. Welcome to CCfan. Keep the pictures coming!!  Tell us more and if you get a chance and haven't already, make a diary entry. How did they do the damage? |

I have a 1985 Southwind 20 with gray interior. The stern seat back was damaged during winter storage at the marina and they are going to replace the seat back, bottom, and vinyl on the skirt board below the seat.
My questions are what grade/weight vinyl should be used and is it possible to match the original color? Thanks.
