Tom,
What do you mean by the distributor being 180 off? An engine won't run if the firing order is 180 off. As long as you have the firing order correct referenced from the #1 TDC, you should be fine. Are using the correct firing order? Is the engine the original RR? What did you do to set the float levels in the carb? Backfiring usually is a lean condition. Why the Pertronics EI conversion? |

recently redid my entire 74 Nautique. 351 windsor changed to marine holley and added pertronics ignition. boat ran fine in drive. went to lake and 3/4 throttle backfired a lot and smoothed out at full throttle. when back home i notice boat has always had distributor 180 off along with wiring 180 off. boat always ran good this way. do you think this coyld be my issue or Carb? i should of done one change at a time but is ran so good in the drive i proceeded to finish whole motor. new fuel pump,wires cap and plugs.... any thoughts?
