Greg...it is ok to use SOME auto parts...plugs, coil etc...however , you can get pretty screwed up if you start putting auto parts in where they don't belong! No auto distributors, carbs, starters...best to ask first so you don't waste your cash or blow the thing up!
There is a link on the site for discount inboard marine (skidim)...they give members a 10% discount and are very helpfull and know there stuff....Ask for Vince! Post some pics! |

I just picked up a 1953 CC Atom off of ebay. The hull seems to be in good condition and I am starting to work on the engine. Considering this is my first marine engine any help would be appreciated. I was told it is a Ford 302. Other than that I am pretty clueless. Not sure where I should begin. The engine has been sitting around for a few years so I pulled out the plugs and put in some fogging oil at least to start with. I was able to hook up a battery directly to the starter and saw that the engine was able to turn over so at least I know it is not seized. I was going to go get some plugs etc. and just do a tuneup on the engine then try to start it but I am not sure if I have to get special marine parts or if regular car parts will work. If I need to get marine parts where is the best place to get them? I live up near Portland, ME.
Thanks for any help / advice y'all can give me. Greg |
