It may run real rough if it is failing. But will likely have a skip in it.

Most any auto parts house will have a rebuilt unit for this . And they are very inexpensive. Need to return the core. That's how we did it at SECC when I was there. Hope this helps

BTW, important question not answered: Would the engine run without PIP signal, just run crappy? Neighbor said that sometimes it is hard to start the engine again after running it for a while. He has to wait about 30 min, before engine restarts.
Thanks.

Hi fgroce, so remove distributor all together? Can't be replaced from top? Do you by any chance have a part number?
Thanks a bunch for the quick reply

Hi and welcome to the forum. The PIP sensor is the pickup sensor in the distributor. You can replace it yourself, If you can find a Motorcraft pickup, I would recommend it over a no name box store part. You would have to remove the gear from the bottom of the distributor to put it in but it is not hard. Try the TFI module second. Good luck

Hey guys, great forum, learned a lot....
Helping my neighbor get his 1999 B52 with PCM Gt-40 running good again. Adjusted timing etc. and it runs okay but not perfect. Bought a ODB1 tester and it reports error code 14: and 18. Also, tach is not working but in service hours counter is advancing. Code 14: points to PIP sensor and 18: no tach signal. Question is: TFI module or PIP/Hall sensor? What is the problem?. Opened the distributor and physically looks okay except it could use some cleaning. How to you remove the rotating part (it's has some rust on it)? Remove two screws on top? Can the PIP/Hall sensor be replaced? Partnumber? TFI module is pretty cheap on ebay (black one) so I might order that anyways but couldn't find anything that relates to hall sensor. Would the boat even run without a signal from hall sensor? I have an oscilloscope I could hook up to see if I get a signal. What wires?
Thanks for the replies.
