Well I dropped the original Holley off at the carb shop- there is a great little shop near me that only does carbs. They have 4 guys in a shop over a garage pumping out rebuilt carb after rebuilt carb and have been doing so since I was a teenager in the mid 80's- and the guy looked at it quick and right away pointed out one problem. The PO had done some backyard tinkering with the choke settings. This was probably to overcome whatever probs he was having during the 12 years he owned it.
Me? I'm the kind of person that wants to start with properly running equipment and establish a baseline for which to compare and monitor future performance. Then, I can start tuning on it on my own when it needs it. I should have it back for the weekend and I'll let you guys know how she runs. Thanks again. |

I tried the rebuild, found out I was not very good at it, learned a little along the way, bought a quick fuel and now have a carb with no leaks! Performance for me has been the same. During the winter I may spend another $40 bucks and try my hand at rebuilding the Holley again to further my education.

Thats considering he would upgrade to a 6.5 power valve from the stock 2.5 if i remember correctly. and get the needle and seats right. I chased mine 4160 around for two years. Rebuild and upgrades and several needles new and old. I finally said F it and got the 600. Had to figure out some small details to get it to mount up. Runs so much better. However thats only on the trailer so far. River is flooded so i can't go test it till vacation this Saturday

Thanks for the input. I'm definitely rebuilding the carb, I was just wondering how the QF was as a performance upgrade? Thinking that I might pick one up if it offered a bump in performance. I'm gonna sift through the forum here and read up on how it worked for others.

I tried rebuilding my old Holley before I went with a new Quick Fuel M600. Like others have said, it might be worth a shot before dropping the coin on a new carb...If you do end up going with a Quick Fuel you won't regret it!

Why not spend about 40 bucks or so on the rebuild kit, you might just surprise yourself and have a lot of money leftover and if nothing else you'll know more about carburetors when you're done.. |

A rebuild would be effective and a lot cheaper... but the quick fuel is a nice piece if you have more money than time.

Yes, there are several members who have swapped their carbs over to Quick Fuels. There are even several threads on it. You need to spend more time with us! |

I have a 76 SN with the 351PCM. It's been giving me problems recently during starting, and I decided that since the thing is 41 years old, it may be time for a carb rebuild. I noticed the fuel delivery down the venturis was more like dribbling gas than a nice even spray. And it was only delivering through the port venturi. My question is this- is anyone using the Quick Fuel M600 carb? And is it worth swapping out vs rebuilding the original Holley?
