I bought my kit (stage 2) from     WORLDWIDEPARTSOUTLET off of e-bay. Order a new damper flex plate while you are at it.
I highly recommend NOT using the front pump seal "ALTO #023420" that comes in the kit. It is entirely encased in neoprene type coating and will not stay in the bore as well as a steel encased seal.   Replacement is easy to come by. Just get same ID and OD and thickness as the Alto. Master Craft site has a good rebuild pictorial you can view. Also recommend getting a rebuild manual. Special tool set for the Velvet is handy but not a have to have set to rebuild.
Keep it as original as YOU want it

If you're in a hurry, just buy the rebuild kit and go all the way through it--bearings, seals, friction material, or if you want to take a few more days and take a risk on someone else's opinion of what a rebuild is-- ( best to do your own work if you can--like anyone here who has done this or rebuilt their stringers-- 😷)

Thats a bummer

Now the shifter is just a spool valve, nothing mechanical.

You can try to take it out and inspect the passages and orings just as easily if on the bench.
Consider free it it up sooner then later, having seen water

A manual is in the reference section and parts are easy to find.

I'm a mechanic. Also I checked it a while ago. Yes the shaft spins fairly easy. I can hear the transmission ratcheting like a bearing went out. Also checked my shifter. It will only go fwd so I guess it's broke now. Geez.

Time for a tear down and autopsy   Sounds like the clutches have fried.   Reverse the same problem also??
What level of mechanical ability are you?? Or do you have a friend/mechanic that could help you. Several of us have performed a rebuild successfully.

Last weekend it was Running perfect when it just quit pulling and started squeeling. That's when I figured out the oil cooler was bad

I was in the water yesterday. I had got all the water out of it last week. And put new transmission fluid in it. It wouldn't go into gear and was still squeeling.

I always thought of that as a growl or groan,with a dry cutlass bearing but who knows

And I'm wondering Ken if he's running it on the trailer and it's the cutlass squealing? If it was on the trailer I'd wet it down,if tried in the water I'd disconnect the shaft.

Do you mean the shifter handle up by the driver's seat won't put it in gear?

If that's the case unhook the linkage at the transmission and try to shift from back there and see what happens.

I never heard of anybody doing a diesel fluid flush on a transmission before, hopefully you just have regular transmission fluid and no diesel fuel in it now.

How long did you run it with water in the fluid? If it filled it up that's a lot of water and maybe you ruined a bearing or 2 or 3.

With the engine OFF and in neutral how does the shaft turn by hand? Easily or does it squeal and groan and turn hard?.

Having transmission trouble. I just bought this ole boat. It has a 351 engine and a velvet drive transmission. The oil cooler went out and it filled the transmission up with water. I think it ruined it. I flushed it with diesel and new fluid.   But it's still squeling and now the shifter won't go into gear. Help please. Lol
