Might want to ask Swatguy via PM for his opinion. He might tell you to run a brand new, fused (he told me to buy things from Knu Concepts), proper gauge power source to a small buss you can use for the stereo and any amps in need of clean power. He's also probably tell you to run a fresh ground. I would not know what to tell you as I'm no expert here.

Thanks for input, yes I have googled for too long, Clarion and CC have little to no info on wiring details, enlisted knowledgeable friends and finally ended up here as last resort before having to trailer to audio dealer. Don't believe it will be hard if you have that basic CC knowledge or experience.
I see the yellow disappearing toward the bow at top of port gunnels and a bundle coming back from bow on starboard with a yellow in a many wire bundle totally covered by plastic conduit. I am the second option: Red is memory trickle volts and then when on keypad accessory position, 12.6 volts. Yellow nothing it's the power. Wondering if there is a fuse inline yellow some where... Thanks! |

Have you traced the "yellow" wire from the unit all the way to its source? Experience with other boats, and recent experience with my 95, has taught me that even for a factory installed unit the colors can change at any time under the dash.
Don't know about your radio model, but with the units I've installed there are 2 ways they are usually designed to power on. One way the red is the 12v power that runs the unit, the yellow is a trigger of sorts that usually leads to the ignition or an ignition source, that way it will only turn on when the ignition is on. With the other the red is connected to the ignition for power - the yellow is power for the memory functions only. I'm guessing yours is closer to the first. I would google the brand and model to see if you can find an original installation manual for confirmation on exactly where this wire is supposed to be getting it's power and trace it from there. |

2007 SN 206 Clarion CDM4a with Amp
I have basic electric knowledge so bare with me! I turned head unit and amp on using a battery jump so I know they work independently. No volts at all on yellow into head unit and at harness connector behind it. Red has proper 12.6v when accessory is on & trickle when not.. Ground I believe is good for all the connections I have tested. Blue remote lead from head to amp shows continuity. 2 time delayed fuses in battery area, and 1 amp Red inline are good. Did not see a fuse in line with the yellow. No circuit breakers are tripped, but also don't see one for the stereo on the board. Tried to look for yellow under dash and to 3 way toggle switch for "All Off"/Standby/"All On"... don't see yellow for stereo. The 2 yellow wires there are labeled for other things. Thanks for your time, its appreciated!! |
