sounds like the prop is over pitched for the boat and that the carb may need adjusted a little. Look on the side of the prop and there should be some stamped numbers to indicate the dia X pitch or a model number. We'll need that before we can sort this out.

I have no idea what pitch the prop is, all i know is that it is a 4 blade.
The hole shot is what I'm talking about when I say it is slow. It doesn't cut out or anything, it just doesn't seem to have the correct amount of power. I can hardly even get up on slalom it's so slow. |

My 95 sport has gt40 heads but is carbeurated. I have the factory three blade. 46mph at 4400rpm is about right for me.
I'm not an expert on props, but someone's going to ask you what the pitch is and what kind of prop it is. Your gas smell near the exhaust is probably normal unless it's really strong. If you were leaking much fuel, you might notice it disappearing on your fuel gage. When you say sluggish to start, do you mean starting the engine or your hole shot? You might start with the fuel water separator or fuel filter if you have one. I'll let someone else weigh in on fuel issues w/and efi. Most of these guys know about 5 times what I do. |

I have a 96 Sport with the GT40 EFI motor with a 4 blade prop. I know that the 4 blade prop is supposed to add low end power but take some off of the top speed, but this is a little drastic. My parents' 82 Nautique pulls about 4 times as hard as the Sport and tops out at around 45 mph. The Sport is sluggish to start and tops out at 38mph @ 4200 rpm. When I stand at the back of the boat with it idling I can sometimes smell a hint of gas. Anyone know what could be up?
