Since this thread is slightly off the rails anyway, and I totally forgot to check back after posting over a week ago, I'll chime in; sorry for the delay Pete. KENO is right - my Supra was an '89 with the 1.23 and this was a straightforward swap, the exhaust had to be reduced from 3.5" to 3" and we had to add a fuel return line. And...we had to retrofit the infamous extra power wire that is referenced in the "Poor Man's GT-40 diagnosis" thread of legendary status around here. That one took us a while to figure out. I even used the same prop initially, because the GT-40 has a higher WOT RPM but I eventually put on an Acme and probably should have done that sooner. That engine had something like 500 hours on it when we got it, but had a major overheat in its history, and a knocking sound. It stayed that way for a few years, until it got a little worse and we rebuilt the engine (properly) as one piston was scoring its cylinder wall slightly. At 1,600 hours it was still running flawlessly when I sold the whole boat. And here's another free bump! Maybe the seller will come down a bit. I think it's a little high, but not crazy. |

About two years ago I was set to buy a gt40/tranny combo from another member as he planned going to a 6.0 for footing. The deal was to meet 6 hours away, test drive the ~12 or 1400 hour motor still in his boat. Upon satisfaction the following week meet at Jody’s 6 hours away and have him swap the engines around in the same day. IIRC it was $2200 or $2500 for the combo plus Jody’s time. But as it got closer to d-day his company shipped him to Italy for a 3 year stretch and he decided to wait until his return for the 6.0, understandably.
That’s how the usual fair folks at CCF roll. Last year I also turned down two running 5.7 ZO motors complete with all speed controls for $3500 and $3800. One motor had high hours, another motor had even higher hours but rebuilt. I knew then I passing up on a good deal. |

I generally don't do business with "offerers" of grossly overpriced goods but that doesn't mean their personality has to be as out of line as their pricing.

Yeah, I could tell Jim wasn't the kind of guy I would do business with when he listed a high hour GT-40 Setup for about 80-85%% of what you could buy a NWZ needing some TLC and remove the engine/trans plus still have all of the parts to sell as well as the trailer.

Not sure how many of you have received nasty private messages from newbie Jim, but he’s definitely not the kind of guy I’d do business with
Jim—hope you learn a lesson here somehow that this forum is for the mutual benefit of boat owners that seek to help one another—and who can take a little ribbing once in awhile. That pretty much disqualifies you. |

Jim, sorry if I came on too strong with the Mike Ditka quote—as gun-driver points out—maybe we’re a bit of a tough crowd! . Why don’t you put this post in the parts for sale section where it belongs.

What you need to find Jim is a close-to-retirement guy that loves to have spare parts on the shelf. And has loads of extra cash to spend on said parts. And time to fiddle with all those extra parts.
Hey, that could be me! Well, except for the extra cash. And the time. But that could also be Ken. Maybe. On the bright side, the thread is still back on top |

I must say, you guys are doing a slam bang job of keeping his thread alive and at the top of the for sale section.that some moderator must have moved it to to keep Pete happy
Jim probably is not too happy about it though |

Man you guys are brutal.
Cut the guy some slack, it's over priced but he'll find that out when he doesn't get any bite's. Can't crush the guy for trying to make up some of the money for his upgrade by listing it to high, after all it's up to the buyer and what they are willing to pay. |

There was one on ski it again at the end of March. Complete and running but had a cracked block for 1K at a Nautique dealer. If I'd had been home I would have called. Should have anyway and seen if they would have held it til I got there. Skidim last had brand new ones in '04 for 6500. One of those and a closed cooling system would had tripled my Shamrock's value

Hey Jody,
Would like to sell complete or may just keep to put in a Shamrock. The 1.23: 40 A is mint. Keep it in mind if needing a 40. I also have the original 40 A out of my 97 ski that is perfect other than the whine experienced in gears of it's vintage. Will let that one go really reasonable. As far as parting out the engine I'm not really interested in doing that. I will entertain an offer on the whole engine. Thanks, Jim |

Hi Jim,
Jody Here, You might make more off the engine parting it out. The ECM is NLA and really a pricey bugger to replace if one needs one! Glad to see you are moving over to a Re-power Excalibur. We are doing one in the shop now on a 99 Bubble back. Cheers buddy! |

This is CCF
When's the last time a thread actually stayed on track and didn't stray off to wherever? Besides, the Supra discussion might sell your engine a little easier Is that a new transmission or a rebuilt original that you're selling? |

Correct Pete. Back when stuff used to get removed from the general forum if it was a for sale listing posted.

Correct plus Jim, it may be better for you to post in the for sale forum section and not the forum general section. |

Folks, Please.....I am trying to sell an engine, not host a discussion on Supra and prop rotation.
Thanks for your understanding. |
