I had not put gasket sealant on the impeller housing so the seal wasn't tight enough to prime the system.

Thinking belts because they feel loose and are the only other part of the boat that was messed with during the impeller change.
Thank you,
Andrew

If it is, how do I ensure the belts are tight enough on a v-belt without an auto-tensioner? I am unsure how to pull the pulley's tight enough so the belts are tight.

Andrew,
What did you find was the problem with the cooling? RWP in the wrong position?

Why do you feel the belt tension is causing the engine to loose power?

There is a PCM manual for 2003 in the reference section. It covers several belt systems. Perhaps this could help you.

you put your water pump on upside down.

put the water intake hose in a 5 gallon bucket filled with water... you will know immediately if it is on wrong.

IIRC the V-Belt version of the Excal pump had a recall, do some google searching and you may find more info. My 05' Excal pump may be different, if not it can go on 3 ways and 2 are wrong, as Gary mentioned you need to be sure TOP is on top.

Mine only goes on one way. Yes it was pulling prior to changing the impeller. However, there are no bubbles in the strainer.
Thank you,
Andrew

Was it pulling before? Bubbles in the strainer?

Not a Chevy owner but I have seen this picture posted here. Notice the word top on the housing,it can be put back on different ways, but only one is right. Check yours maybe thats it. Click on the pic if you need it larger.

I replaced the impeller on my 2003 Nautique 196. It is a 5.7L Excalibur 330 V-belt. After replacing the impeller the boat is not pulling water in. The engine is over heating. I am wondering if anyone has had this issue and what the solution may be. The impeller is brand new and the belts are all on correctly. Is it a hose sealing issue? Or could it be something else?
Thank you,
Andrew
