Chris and Pete - Thanks!!!!! - I found the cause. Somehow, (no clue how) but the accelerator pump adjustment had it to where it was constantly pressed down. I adjusted that to where there is a 15000" gap at idle (per Holly) between the arm and the lever (not sure if the terminaolgy is correct but you guys get it) and it idles great. I appreciate all the input and help. As always, you guys are the most knowledgeable out there. Thanks again....

You can look down carb throat when it is idling, you should not see any dripping.      Also, turn idle mixture screws in - they should kill the engine.

This is what I was leading up to. Since the bad idle was after you installed the new fuel line, I'm wondering if something got in the carb. The screen is for catching bigger debris.

Gary - Did it leave the black soot before you changed the fuel line?

These symptoms point to carb dripping internally. Could be coincidence that it got worse when you changed line.

You can look down carb throat when it is idling, you should not see any dripping.      Also, turn idle mixture screws in - they should kill the engine.

Thanks for the clarification. You are now suggesting the inspection of the screen. rather than just seeing if there is one in the adaptor.

You can’t perform any meanful inspection of that screen in the adapter while it’s installed in the bowl. Since the fuel line will be off, just unthread the adapter and turn it over and inspect for blockages. With a functioning fuel filter in place, any blockage is likely to be pretty fine. Holding the piece up to light to see through it is helpful to judge whether it’s clear or not.

Removal of the adaptor isn't needed but do remove the fuel line and look inside.

You wouldn’t have seen it unless you removed the adapter and looked at the back side. Not all carbs have them.

Well I did not see a screen at the carb at all. Is that going to be an issue? I did not notice a screen when I removed it either.

You did it correctly without any sealant and tape. I asked about the tape and sealant because I thought it may have gotten in the fuel line and caused the bad idle by getting into the carb. When you replaced the fuel line, did you notice the screen inside the flare adaptor at the carb?

No Teflon tape or anything. The elbow did have some on it (red stuff).   Thanks for the MInfo on timing. I didn’t think so but thought I would ask.   Should I put some Teflon tape on the lines ends ?

Did you use any type of thread sealant or Teflon tape when you installed the new fuel line?

No, replacing the fuel line will not change the timing.

I changed out the elbow from the fuel pump and fuel line. Leak fixed. HOWEVER, now it idles super rough and will stall. - Runs on top end great - I am going to check in the morning for the "stupid" stuff like maybe I bumped a hose lose or spark plug wire or something. I don't think I did, but I am a bit baffled.

Also, I wipe the boat down every time I pull it out and the rear of the boat had a black film - Burning too rich?

Could introducing something new into the fuel system ie. line impact the timing?

Anyway, any thoughts on this would be great. LIke I said, I will check for dumb stuff tomorrow...

Skidims will fit into place with minimal effort. If you go the auto parts route you would get a brake line,then bend and cut to fit then double flare the end you cut off. I bought my last one because I could not get as sharp of bends as the oem PCM had.

So I took the fuel line off and inspected it and the fitting. The fitting looks good, but the fuel line not so much... there is a definite deformation in the line right at the top of the nut.. I can't slide the flare nut past it.

I suggest disassembling the line off the adapter and unthreading the adapter from the pump. Clean both up. Look closely at the flare on the fuel line to make sure it's not split at the flare. If there's any residue on the flare and the adapter sealing surface, you can use a scotch brite pad to lightly remove it. Reassemble and see what happens. Double wrench the flare nut to the adapter.

Hi all. 1991 SN with 477 hours.- Originally pro-tech, but replaced with Retro Kit (Thanks to you guys) -

I have noticed a small fuel leak at the fitting where the fuel line connects into the pump at the elbow joint. It appears to be coming out at the nut where the fuel line connects. I have checked it and it is tight. Any info or help is greatly appreciated as always. There is no fuel in the sight hose either, so assumption is the pump is working fine.
