john is correct, we see many transmissions with this problem, sea world had this problem often, they would throw the boat into reverse at high speeeds to bring the skier around the front of the boat, and it would break the plates. older borg warners had one plate and decide to go to two plates to try to avoid the proble, it still happens. we use a steel hubbed friction to even make reverse stronger, we also use high graphite plates for forward eric fantasticfinishmarine.com

Disconnect the cable and actuate it by hand. If it still doesn't work, its likely the reverse piston seal. Its time take it out and apart, go all through it, fresh clutches and seals. Its not hard to do.
SKIDIM is good but doesn't have every part you may need. this place is good for mix-a-match the manual is on-line in the ref section of CCF.com http://bpi.ebasicpower.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=eBasicPower&Category_Code=ALL3 |

My 87 Borg-Warner 1:1 goes into reverse but the prop remain stationary. Neutral and Forward work fine, just no reverse. Can there be anything I should look at before I assume it needs a rebuild and start pulling the tranny?
Thanks in advance for help! This board is flippin awesome. |
