Question,
Is this the correct distributor (reverse rotation)?
The rotor turns counter clockwise is that correct?
Firing order is 13726548

Any help would be appreashed

Dennis,
Glad you found the problem and we were able to help. If it makes you feel any better and just as Ken mentioned, many including myself have gotten a distributor 180 off.

Welcome to CCfan. Stick around and any pictures you have would be great to see. The 2001 is a classic!

The coil problem sounds like a wiring issue you had.

Glad it's fixed

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger though.

You're far from being the first person that this happened to and you definitely won't be the last either

FIXED. Thanks for everyone's help. Distributor was 180 out and I was using the wrong firing order. If anyone's interested I have a Mallory breakerless distributor and coil I'll sell cheap. I installed the DUI because I was burning out coils. The coil is brand new.

You could always remove plugs & get firing order from thumb pressure over the holes.

Maybe a PO changed the cam, who knows.

You might want to read the manual again and make sure you're looking at a reverse rotation firing order.

Cuz' what I gave you is the reverse rotation order

No matter which order you're using you go counterclockwise around the cap because the rotor turns counterclockwise on a normal rotation engine and also on a reverse rotation engine

Are you sure that you have #1 at 10 degrees before Top Dead Center on the compression stroke when it's firing?

The backfire through the carburetor sure sounds like you have #1 at 10 degrees before TDC on the exhaust stroke.

Or in other words your timing is 180 degrees out

The firing order I posted is out of the Commander service manual. I started with your firing order and It was back firing thru the carb. The timing is set at 10 btdc. ???????

Your intake may have the firing order cast into it, but it's an automotive intake being used on a reverse rotation PCM engine so you can't go by that cast in order.

Like Duane said, if the distributor fit in the hole and the gears meshed, it's the right distributor.

The wrong thing though is the firing order you're using.

13726548 is the normal rotation firing order

You want 18456273 working your way counterclockwise around the cap

So swap those wires around and it should run if you have the timing set OK.

The DUI unit has the coil on it. That's why I bought this one. It only needs 12 volts and tach wire. should have been very easy to wire.

Thanks for the reply.

They all turn CCW
You could not get it to set down onto the flange if you had the wrong gear.
Don't have the firing order in front of me but surely Ken or someone will chime in.
Also make sure you have the correct coil and have dist wired right
Keep it as original as YOU want it
