Yes, the picture does say plenty. I'm glad we got that cleared up.
Jeff, I'm surprised you didn't catch on after Ken posted the picture of a flywheel. |

Thanks @KENO for the reply! I think it's a 1 11/16" socket then bc I tried a 1 1/2" and it was too small. Thank you again for your help!

If you're doing the seal with the transmission installed in the boat, without raising the back of the engine at all, a long breaker bar and also a way to prevent the shaft/coupling from turning will be necessary for both removal and installation of the nut.

Well, that picture is easily worth a thousand words
![]() What you're really trying to do is change the rear seal on the transmission, not the engine and that thing you're trying to get off is the output coupling not a flywheel Borg Warner used 2 different sizes of nut over the years. A 1 1/2 inch socket works on the earlier nuts and a 1 11/16 on the later ones. Yours is most likely a 1 1/2 You could measure to be sure. And by far the easiest way to remove the nut is with an air impact wrench. They're on there tight. Borg Warner's spec is 160 to 260 ft lbs. |

Ok I was able to upload the photo using my laptop finally. Shouldn't this nut be removed in order to slide that part off to access the rear main seal just behind it? I got a new seal from Skidim just gotta get to the old one lol.. Thanks again for any assistance! |

Jeff,
Are you sure you're working on the aft end of the engine and not the front end with the harmonic balancer? As Ken mentioned, the flywheel bolts onto the crank with the 6 bolts. ![]() How have you been trying to post the picture? You need to expand the post reply with the "full reply" editor. Don't use the "quick reply". |

It won't let me upload the picture. I took those bolts out but there is a nut holding on the part that has to be removed to get to the seal. If you email me at jeffquallio@gmail.com I can send you the picture. Nothing happens when I click the picture upload button.

You might need that picture because there is no nut holding the flywheel on to the crankshaft output flange. There are 6 bolts that hold the flywheel on Here's a picture of the flywheel with the bolt holes |

Question.. does anyone know what size this nut is on a 1986 Ford PCM 351? I am trying to replace the rear main seal and I can't seem to get the size of the nut on the flywheel. Thanks anyone for any assistance. I have a picture but don't know how to attach it to this thread.
