Hey Guys....I just heard from Townsend....He, Amanda and the girls are okay, Flo took out his storm windows and flooded the crawlspace wiping out his A/C. Quite a few friends lost everything so they got lucky.Cell service is sporatic and just got power back. So send him some good vibes y'all!

In our area winds were not that severe, no damage, consistent light to medium rainfall. Did cause a bit of a change in lake level though.

Donald - Hugo hit Charlotte at night on my 21st birthday. I showed up to work at Holiday Harbor Marina the next day hung over only to find the marina was gone. I spent the next 6 months living on a houseboat at the gas dock and rebuilding the docks. It was a total surprise to me and I think everyone else,

I was supposed to drive down to Davidson today for my grandma's 95th birthday but decided it wasn't too smart. If I remember correctly, Hugo was still Category 3 when it hit Charlotte, and for a while it looked like Florence might do the same thing, It appears now that may not happen, and I hope for everyone's sake it doesn't. Still, all those folks by the coast and in the flats of NC and SC are going to be hit very hard.

Good luck everyone.

Some light breeze here now. My friend who lives near Rocky Mount NC - about 90 minutes east from Badin has gone under a tropical storm warning so things are heading west. If all goes well there will be no delays (from the storm) in the goodies from Jeg's or Summit........

The Waffle House at Morehead City just closed. Waffle Houses NEVER CLOSE, this is indication of how hard this storm will be on the Carolina Coast.

Hurricane Hugo crushed Charlotte in 1989. It was a Cat 4 that hit Charleston and came through Charlotte (3.5 hour drive from Charleston) and did a ton of damage. I lost power for 2 weeks and most lost power for one month. My parents live 90 minutes North of Charlotte in the foothills of the NC mountains above Hickory, and they lost 20 Oak Trees in a 10 acres woods. That was almost five hours from the coast.

Good luck Gary. Once it opens, the river will be so full of PWC's, tubers and surfers, you won't be able to get the boat off the lift!!

It does not take much I guess. We were 50 miles from the eye of Irma with not very much between it and us. Our street never even lost any utilities.
On a side note the weatherman here just said we have gone 5 days with out rain. Possibly going 12 with out,the longest of all summer! Maybe the river will open in time to put the boat away

How far is White Lake from the coast? That area is flat. I hope it does not get destroyed.

Just to let all the members know that Nautique Parts, one of our sponsored parts suppliers is located in the direct path of the oncoming hurricane. Was looking on their website and they asked if we could keep them in our thoughts and prayers to come through this without great loss to them and theirs.

The local weatherman up here, Adam Epstein, suggested that Mainers call their friends and family in NC to make sure they knew there was a hurricane coming and find out if they had a plan. That's just the kind of plan he needs to receive.

I wouldn’t worry about wind too much, rain is another story and I heard Florence is expected to stall. We’re probably 75 miles inland which seems to buffer the wind but tornadoes that spawn are a nightmare. During Irma I started measuring the rainfall after the first ~24 hours (which seemed to be 4” already) and for the next 24 hours I measured 22” of rain. I’m in a lower area but we have good drainage canals which evidently did a great job of moving the water to some other poor souls house but the ground and aquafur was so full and saturated that most of the wells in the area began to overflow which then caused erosion washing ground away, footings, houses caving in and sink holes. I seen wells flow into the electrical pvc conduit, fill the conduit then spill out into the panel and flood the house out. So many people survived the storm only to have their houses fall in a few days later. I’d take 120 mph wind in a 24 hour period over stalled TS for 5 days.

Tough Guy Gary says ....... "takes more than a hurricane........."

Actually, I think you midwesterners have had more river flooding over the summer and past years than we've had. Every emergency is a local one........ here neighbors are raising boats in lifts for out of towners, folks are behaving well together and looking out for one another. It's not like Facebook at all!
