I sort of did, a long time ago. Of course I dont have the smartz to monetize an idea, but I did sort of think of it. Well maybe not exactly but I have said on many occasions, why spend the $150,000 when you can buy a nice tooner for about 40 that does about everything the surf barge does. Holds a ton of people, can have a big stereo, lots of storage space. OK, it may not have the great surf wake but between seating, music, drinks, storage, the surfing is a minor loss. Given the fact that surfing is dull as dirt and takes about as much skill as tubing, I figure that part of it is expendable.

The top deck was a pontoon layout, 100%. The hull was all aluminum, kind of like the old Viking deck boats, with lots of angles, strakes, chines, what-have-you under there. It was busy but man, it worked well in the water.

But yeah, it looked and felt like a pontoon until you were on plane. Like I said, I hated it, but was totally impressed with how it drove. Not a ton of bow rise for an outboard and good hole shot with just the 150. All "pontoons" should be like that. But then I guess they'd just be deckboats, and they'd cost more.

My dad has a 20' Bennington tri-toon with a Yamaha 150 outboard. The center pontoon is larger, oval shaped, and set a bit lower so it leans slightly in turns. Tops out around 38mph and has a surprisingly flat wake for skiing. Easy to get some prop cavitation if you quickly cross a wake while turning - the pontoons keep it high out of the water even at speed. Holds a dozen people comfortably and will still pull me up on a slalom ski with eight people on board. It's no ski boat, but for loading the whole family on board it works really well.

Our neighbor has an older deck boat set up like a pontoon with a fiberglass tri-hull and a 125hp outboard. It's a bit faster than the tri-toon but bucks pretty bad going over chop.

I'll keep my Mustang, of course.

Yeah Pete, but the hull below the rub rail is markedly different than any deck boat I've ever seen and it's just plain ugly, to me anyway. Never really cared too much for deck boats for that matter. I'm kind of a traditional 'V' front, classic style guy - which is why it's crazy that I sorta like the new Ski Nautique. Sorta.

Still have our surfboard but don't think our jet jon will dig out a trough, so the thrill is gone.

Wakeslayer was the site surf expert - his boat threw a waist-high wave.

Plus he was considerate enough to know not to throw it at other people.

By next year they will have plans for a toon surf gate on Pontoonfan.com.

Good one !

Making light of the inland 'surf revolution' is of course comical on a predominately [old school] slalom enthusiast site. I'm sure there are a few out there that love the sport and have a more positive viewpoint. Personally, it's not something that ever interested me much though I have a couple of friends that are nuts over this upcoming sport.   Wake quality aside - since I couldn't tell you one way or another anyway - I'm not too wild about the overall style of the boat.   Looks to me like they crossed a pontoon with a miniature version of the ARK!   Well .... as I always say, each to their own.

Well, I did try to keep it in the closet but now that you have found out, I will admit to being on the semi pro surfing circuit. Actually, Chris and I have had a very good season competing in the senior doubles Not too much competition in the category so maybe that's why?? Yes, that Montara wake looks real bad. No curl and all chop!

This boat will be a hit. Surfing has taken over. It doesn't matter that it may not have the best wake as it seats 20. Think about it, it's cheaper, carries numerous cases of beer, mega sound system. Personally I'd steer clear of it but it will sell.

It's amazing the boats and money for boats that come out of the wood work in a good economy.

Maybe pontoons will be the cats meow at surfing. Inboard manufacturers will be forced to return to their roots making good looking 3 event and or barefoot boats to survive the surfapocalypse

Not a good surf wake. Buyers will be disappointed.

I was able to get a great end of season discount on a Montara With the 550, the cost was just under 70K. They plan on shipping it to me in April.

Coming soon to a body of water near you, here is the best surf boat ever in the link below

It's PCM powered,Zero Off speed control holds ridiculous amounts of ballast and people, has some big honkin' speakers and has a changing room and a crapper among other things

With the big engine (550 )it'll do 42 with full ballast

Maybe the shafts will outlast those on a G23 too

Just wait, a couple of years down the road they'll be owned by Correct Craft

Oops, wrong website, I thought I was on Planet Surf Boss not CCF
