thats just for the throttle body, no injectors, harness, nor electronics |

Donald, I shouldnt have to remind you that just because it says "National or Regional Tow Boat" on the side, doesnt mean it was actually used to tow boats at sanctioned events. Now if it has the super reinforced rear lifting ring that can handle a 12,000 pound horizontal load without cracking the gel, then it just might be an official "National or Regional Tow Boat" |

Gary,
You have it backwards. Getting towed, lowers the value. Doing the towing adds value. ![]() |

Cousin Donald, this is why my price is non negotiable. The Mrs is well aware of the historical significance of being towed by the very first National Tow Boat from back when they started the program in 1955. I believe the Hurricane has towed the waters of Cypress Gardens Florida all the way to Deep Lake Illinois. ![]() |

I concur, given the situation the M-600 is best value
And get a good spin-on filter housing, throw the fram cartridge away and don't look back |

Zach,
Very valid points on rebuilding the old carb and the basic health of the engine. Maybe Brant can fill us in on exactly what problems he's having and what diagnostics he's done. |

I wouldn't put money into a rebuild of that carb with 2000 hours unless you are going to have the throttle shafts bushed. There will be quite a bit of wear on those shafts which translates into an unfixable vacuum leak and causes key start and idle issues.
I wouldn't even dream of a 300 dollar rebuild when I can grab up a superior carburetor for just shy of 200 more. Sort of like your 2300-9800 comparison on the efi conversion vs repower with modern engine. Why rebuild an old pile when for less than another rebuild more you can have the best new marine carb on the market. Do yourself a favor and pickup the quick fuel M-600. Also, at 2000 hours I would also assess the health of your engine. Compression test to make sure you aren't seeing running issues from worn valves/low compression etc. |

You haven't mentioned what the trouble is. Are you sure it's the carb? Have you done anything to isolate the problem(s) to tell you it's the carb? Also, many here have rebuilt the 4160's themselves so give it a try. |

What sparked my interest in changing over to EFI was cost. I was talking with a car guy at my work. For a car, the cost is fairly inexpensive ($370 ish). SkierOx had given me the name of a company in Eau Claire, Wisconsin called Bigs Performance Products to get my Holy 4 barrel rebuilt. The cost he quoted me on the phone was $245 - $295 for the rebuild. If I could get a little better HP (not that I need it), I would give it a shot. I can't see spending $2300 to upgrade. I'd rather spend $9800 and put a new PCM 343 HP EX-343 engine in. So, I'm either going to buy the rebuild kit for $40 and rebuild the carb myself, or send it to Bigs Performance. |

David, I also remember towing a Yellow Ski Tique at White Lake, but it did have fuel in it. I do believe I have a rare National or Regional Tow Boat. ![]() |

Pete,
I had a gauge and installed a year ago and never got to testing the the sending unit as I was to busy enjoying the boat. While I had the boat in the garage last weekend for other items I pulled the sending unit out to find that there was no possible way the float mechanism would operate as intended (no free movement of the float arm) and also by shorting out the sending unit. |

Also to Greg's credit and to give him a pass on this one, he made the mistake of leaving his BFN with a bunch of us yahoos while he ran back to the house in his 206, which took longer than he expected, because, nice guy that he is, he stopped and towed someone else in. (not even one of our group) Meanwhile, us selfish yahoos took countless WFO barefoot runs behind his boat while he was gone and then gave it back to him for the trip in. So he gets a pass on that one. Now earlier in the season, when he, Kristin and I were out for a few runs..... |

Ha, that joke may never get old. Poor Donald had to do the towing but we have all been there. And to Greg's credit, I stopped by the other morning and he was hard at work putting in a new fuel gauge and sender. Fool him once shame on the boat, fool him twice shame on Donald, but not again!

They've got one fussy little quirk tho, apparently you have to run gas through them for them to work. ![]() |

Brant,
Have you made any decisions yet on the EFI? Which system you will be using? The $2400.00 one Eric linked? |

Cool! I want to see what you do and how this works. How are you going to install a fuel pump in your boat? We are all very curious to see how the oxygen sensor is installed and works. Post photos and take us along on your journey!

I see the EFI kit includes a "specialized O2 sensor bung"
Several questions were asked about the o2 sensor installation, but were never answered. Kinda sketchy IMO |

The thing I don't understand why anyone would spend this kind of money for essentially a band aid type system. In the last couple of years I have personally come across 4 GT40 engines being parted out. You could relatively cheaply install a computer controlled factory system yet the guys selling sat with them piecemealing parts off til little was left.

With your standard output 351W, I don't believe that you will see significant improvement with a throttle-body EFI unit. For less than $500 you can install a QuickFuel marine carb that will out-perform the Holley 4160 that you now have -- without having to go to EFI. See link below.
LINK My 1994 High Output 351W came with factory throttle-body EFI. However, when that system failed, I went to the QuickFuel carb. I spend quite a bit of time researching and asking the experts about the after-market throttle-body EFI kits and I decided to go "backward" to carbureted. That was several years ago. Today, my engine starts easily and performs at or near the throttle-body EFI Just my 2¢ JQ |

I agree Pete. A properly tuned carburetor will run 99-100% on par with an efi setup. If it doesn’t, it’s the mechanics fault. I foresee a Holley 4160 being produced 20 years from now. I do not foresee all the electronics being produced for the Gt40 or Excal engines in 20 years and especially not for aftermarket efi setups. Only possible advantage I see with efi is if the elevation you run your boat changes drastically.

And some advertising from their marketing dept.: "FAST EZ-EFI marine base kit fuel injection systems upgrade the rough idle and poor cold starting often associated with engines running a carburetor, while improving overall performance and drivability."
