He says right here it's fuel injected All GT40's are fuel injected, some engines with GT40 heads had carburetors but they were named something different too. Since you're running cooler than 160, the computer is probably making the engine run a little richer. I'd say not much performance difference at all and probably nothing you'd really notice as far as fuel usage either. If you haven't looked at the thermostat at some point, you may find it's a 143 like mentioned or it could be a 160 that's stuck open or maybe there's nothing at all in there. Oh BTW, if Pete thinks you're normal, coming from somebody like him I'd be worried about myself. I think you're pretty normal, but I'm far from normal like Pete is just more reason to be worried |

If your GT40 has a carburetor 143 is the thermostat setting.
If it is a Fuel Injected engine the setting would be 160. |

My real question here is what difference does running at 140 VS 160 make on a 98 SN with GT40 MPI? performance? fuel usage?
While using the boat the past week for skiing and cruising it is running right around the 140 range on the temp gauge. Only time it goes higher is during a shutdown, and then upon starting it immediately drops back down to 140. This is running during 85 to 90 deg outside temps and 80 surface temp. I used the IR temp gun to check block temp etc. and just below the thermostat yesterday was reading 137 while idling after a run. Top of Tstat housing around 110. So I am confident that my gauge is close. Have a new 160 tstat to install and am just assuming there is a 140 in it now, but could just be old and wearing out? And just because we all love pictures Thanks for any replies as always |
