OMG, I did not know Reid was in the middle of it. I figured he was watching from his Mooresville home or securing things in Washington, NC on the coast. Glad he and Andy are OK. Please pray for and help the people of the Bahama's.

Hey Guys late to the party on this one as I haven't been on the site in a few days. I've been in contact with Laurie and Nautique John for updates on our buddy Reid. Thaks to the power of FB I've been able to see the devastation on Guana Cay and Reids house. He and his bud Andy who also had a boat down there started off in the bottom floor of the house. As the winds and rain picked up tremendously and fear of thenhouse coming down on top of them, they left for a concrete house built on a coral foundation next to Grabbers and on the bay. Video shows them going down into the crawlspace/ basement basement where they decided to ride out more of Dorians wrath. They may have had to bail from there as the pounding rain and surges from the storm created a waterfall down the steps to their safe place. Once the storm left then Andy and Reid ventured back to Rum Front to see how it faired. As mention above. It's flattened. The cisterns are there and the flooring for the second floor is there but the rest of the house is scattered about or leaning against the posts holding up the floor, It's a good tig they bailed as the house did indeed cave in to where they started this adventure.
In texting conversations with Laurie and John. They both came out unhurt and okay. Reid was able to contact Laurie via SAT phone to let her know they were okay. Andy's boat is upside down in the bay and Skippers Rum is a total loss. Andy was airlifted out last Wed because of medical needs. He wasn't physically hurt but in dire need of medicine. At last report that I got. Reid was coming this Thursday but in the meantime he is being the typical Reid that he is and helping everyone and anyone he can. Siphoning gas out of Skippers Rum to keep generators going being one of them. Having been there a couple of times it gets freakishly hot and humid but there's always been some relief from it all in AC. Water is scarce and usually brought it when you visit. Yes there are cisterns collecting the rain from the gutters but many houses (including Reids) do not have filtration units on them and no power to pump water out of them anyway. Might be a drain at the bottom but don't know if there are. As Joe mentioned the tourism is what drives the economy of this little island and it's totally gone. Zero Zilch Nada..... Continue to pray for the folks in the Abacos because it's going to take years for them to recover. |

The place is flattened, Nothing left. My son Cameron is gearing up to work salvage once the Bahamians get their *************** together. I dd not know Brother Reid maintained a house there. (I would have visited). Just a mess. Never to be the same. Unfortunately the Bahamian Govt will make the Puerto Rico fiasco look organised and legit. They are already stalling relief to make sure they get control . ($)

When I saw that hurricane come over them my heart sank. Category 4 to an island chain like that is awful. Then it stalled which is the worst thing it could do. Then not only did it stall it picked up to a cat 5! It’s gonna take 5 years and 150 billion dollars to rebuild, maybe more. It’s ok though, the 3 cruise lines donated a million dollars each to the effort (insert sarcasm here). Every resource is gone. Water, food, shelter, fuel, lumber, shingles is gone and has to be brought in. I know of a few private boats to go over there and do what they can to help out but return fuel back to WPB is a major concern. Sad situation.

Unfortunately, his house is sitting in a pile in the side yard - looks like the boat lifts in the harbor are also destroyed. If they got the boats on shore it would have been in Marsh Harbor which was also flooded/wrecked. The entire area is so destroyed and the needs so great for shelter, food, and water even if the boats are salvageable now there would be no way to consider it. Safety and survival is the gift at this point - the locals with no place left to go, no tourists to support, and no ferries or airports to leave on are gonna be hurting for a long time.

I had heard than Reid was headed down to the Bahamas a couple days ago to see if he could secure his boat better in prep of the hurricane. Has anyone heard how he's doing?
