I found a very easy way to do it. My Snap-on A177A fits perfectly around the webbing on the casting to compresss the detent ball and spring and holds the ball in place while you withdraw the tool. Beginner's luck. Do you know if it should have a felt around the throttle shaft? I may be asking a question or two when I try to rig this. I would like to do it backwards. I can't find a model # on this thing. It is beautifully simple compared to the old Mercontrols.

Mine looked about the same. Getting the ball & springs back in on the early Morse was way harder than the MV-2's from the late 70's/Early 80's. Proceed with patience.

Got around to playing with the Mustang a bit the past couple days. I disassembled the Morse control to clean and lube it. I suspect it had never been serviced and it's probably good procedure to do it every half century r so. It was about as filthy as one would expect for 50 years and 1,652 hours. There is a little more wear than I would have expected from the detent ball. It should work nicely and require a wee bit less presure to take it out of the detent positions.
