Just a (mostly) sequential numbering of the hull... M being Mustang. The number crosses to a ‘70 as you suspected.

I know that the 1970 Mustang does not have an imprint for the Hull ID number. The small plate next to the throttle reads M2853. Can anyone let me know what this means?
