Yep, same here! Clearly a much more labor-intensive job building up a wooden-stringer system than a composite, as I would imagine a few of those steps are omitted on boats with the ICS. Thanks for sharing.

Nah it was the competition. MC was an early adopter (83) followed by supreme around 85. Supra in ‘92 and Malibu in 93... the writing was on the wall.

There were continual improvements in materials and methodologies with the wood stringers... coverage and sealing were really well done by the early 90’s so I would imagine Cc was fairly confident in how robust they were (the video seems to confirm). The boats that might’ve been rotting nearly 30 years ago were not built to the same standard... I doubt that would have had them worrying much.

I found it interesting that they mention the stringer system being fully encapsulated with glass "virtually eliminating the possibility of water intrusion"

I'd guess that CC was losing business over the wood stringers in 1992. MC and Ski Supreme had already transitioned over to composite.

Chris,
I don't feel it was competition that really moved CC away from wood but rather the rot issue. By 92 the rot problem was starting to show and rather than modify/increase the sealing (and cost) of the wood, the glass finally was used. I understand that Mr. Ralph was very resistant to glass because of the feeling that the wood had great sound dampening qualities and I have to agree. He and CC were very concerned with harmonics. If you noticed in the video, they actually were bonding vibration dampening pads to the hull.

Mr Pete, Did you expect CC to say “our stringers are known to rot”?,

Either yesterday or earlier today Correct Craft put up a video on their YouTube channel. A very cool one this time around. It covers their early-1990's manufacturing techniques and functions as a sort of virtual tour. The video is amazing, covering everything from stringer installation to testing the boat. It's short so they just lightly skim the topics and the video itself loops in places. But it is really enjoyable.

I had a great time checking this video out and wanted to share:

I love that they put this online. It's a great piece of history and I really loved this thing.
