And, yes, I did find the manuals. It is amazing the resources here, as all the specific equipment manuals are on here. In addition to printing the engine and transmission manuals, the speedo, steering, and control system manuals specifically describe my equipment. Without them, I'd be lost.

Very cool boat... one of our friends has a similar boat in the Kansas City area. There were two water pumps used in the big block chryslers of that era. One is the sherwood d55 - it is still available new (but around $700 bucks) and uses easy to get sherwood 9959k and 10615k impellers. If you find you have the Jabsco pump instead i would have to physically dig out impellers to find the numbers but they were available a couple years back and likely still are...   I am not one to baby my raw water pumps, removing impellers in the winter, watching for priming issues at idle, etc - but if you have a Jabsco pump that would be an exception the impellers on that one were a bit on the "delicate" side.

I agree that one source for gas in the oil is a ruptured diaphragm in the fuel pump. You may feel the pump isn't the source but I'd rebuild it anyway. Here's the source to fix it. Regarding the impeller for the RWP, here's the link for it you'll probably have to do some measuring and also need two impellers. (Type in "impeller" into Jamestown's search) Have you found the engine manual in the refference section?

I finally started refurbishing this boat;


1967 riviera

Those aren't my photos, but from the fella I bought it from.   Rats had gotten into it, and chewed a bit of the wiring up.

I have pulled the engine to repair the structure stuff, and repair the wiring harness, and it is in remarkably good shape.

That being said, I am at a loss for where to source the "consumables", in particular, the fuel pump entrails, and the water pump impellers.

After I tested the fuel pump(removing the spark plugs, and spinning the engine, it didn't work), I pulled and disassembled it. The suction check valve was dirty, preventing the pump from working. Cleaning it up made it work. I had used ethanol free fuel, but sooner or later, that membrane is going to fail.

I am going to test the water pump in the same way, and have the same sourcing issue for the impeller.

Does anyone have a source for parts for these old marine engines?

Finally, there was fuel in the oil. I had thought that the fuel pump had failed(which is why I started there), but that wasn't the issue. Does anyone have guidance on how fuel could get into the oil.   I suspect that some cylinders weren't firing when the previous owner was messing with it, but it was about a quart overfull, and that seems like a lot.
