Just don't get your mechanical gage from Harbor Freight. I got a tire pressure gage there that is off over 5 PSI.

if in doubt on your oil pressure gauge in the dash, take out the oil sending plug, and hook up a mechanicl oil pressure gauge....you can get a good accurate reading of your engine's oil psi, and if your dash gauge is accurate or not

I saw that one. I got nervous because the description is for an older boat.

Scott, I don't think you looked hard enough. 6A6 strut at Nautique Parts. Struts can be straightened too. |

Thanks. Just eyeballing it, the strut does appear to be bent. That would explain things.
Is it hard to replace? It has 6A-6 as the part number, but that does not match up with nautiqueparts.coms part number. Any input would be great. thanks.. |

1. The shaft is binding in the strut because you have disconnected it from the transmission. If it still binds when connected then what Pete said is valid.
2. I have not seen any temp or oil switches used by PCM or CC in that era (prior to protec in 91). The dummy lights on the dash are controlled by a circuit board floating under there... some have tried to fix but your best bet is to disconnect it and just pay attention to the gauges. |

Scott,
If turning the prop shaft is hard, then check the shaft for straightness The max is .003 TIR. The strut could also need alignment or it's bent. There's a pressure switch (and temp switch) that turns the light on. ether the switch is bad or the wire connecting the switch to the light is grounded. I'd suggest getting the VOM (volt Ohm meter) out and checking both switches if they are shunted to ground. |

1-I have a 1989 barefoot Nautique (Just got it a month ago). When the shaft coupler is disconnect from the trans, the prop is very difficult to turn and will not slide back and forth. What could be the cause?
2- I have had my oil pressure checked and its around 50 psi, but my oil pressure light is on? the gage does show it as 50 psi. |
