Yup it was that fuse right next to the ignition switch at the bottom, I’ll up it to a 20A

No ignition (engine running) or no cranking? Get the VOM out and start at the ignition key switch.

No cranking and no accessories (blower, horn, pump, nav lights.) I found it was a blown fuse. It had only a 10A in there and I upped it to a 15A. All accessories and ignition cams back. Probably shorted from impact when the trailer slammed the pavement.

Mark makes and excellent point, re: the quality of the off-short parts, and I typically ask specifics when I'm ordering stuff like this. All in all, it's easy enough to just get new quality bearings and races locally and overhaul the existing hubs, provided they're in good shape. I'll get mine apart this spring and see what I've got.

Thanks,

MS

Mark I'm guessing some if not all bearing companies have a Chinese connection,I think it was SKF ones that I bought were made there. I was surprised in a way and not happy.

Haha yeah I was thinking if it was more expensive to fix this one vs another trailer, I guess we’ll see. I know of a place that can straighten frames but it looks like it’ll be next season when I can leave the boat at my friends dock.

Gary you are correct,  many come out of China, the hard part is getting quality from China, the name brands own the plants and control the quality

Not sure about available trailers but maybe find a local small welding shop, they work with steel every day and should be able to fix or advise you how bad your frame is.  We lifted my boat off the trailer to paint the trailer, set it down on stacks of used tires that we picked up at the local tire shop.  Did the job put the boat back on the trailer when done and returned the tires.   Second time around I hung the boat from the floor Joists in my garage.  Both methods worked.  The floor joists were 2 1/4 x 10" and did not flex with the load.  I bolted hooks to the wood up  high on the joists for the lift.  Much easier to fix a trailer with no boat on board.  I think there are pics on here somewhere where a guy hung his boat from a tree.

Thanks for the info. This failure on mine the outter bearing failed and the hub slid right over the castle nut which remained on the axle.

The frame where the shackle mounts to is pretty tweaked from slamming the ground , I’ll need a frame shop to staighten it or a new trailer. How often can you find these trailers for sale?

Well, you are correct, there was plenty of grease when it failed.  No signs of heat on that failed axle stub.  The inner bearing support looks fine, the inner seal surface looks fine.   Your outer bearing support is pretty ground up but again, the steel looks to be fine.  If it was black or blued it would be junk.

I fixed a nearly identical axle a couple weeks ago.   I may have pictures I will have to go look but here is the posting.  If a bearing exists in the right size you might save that axle.  If you need help looking for a bearing size let me know.  I would need the numbers off the bearing Race and the actual bearing.  Race is inside your wheel hub and the bearing is the part with the rollers.  Hope it helps.   To see a failure like this with no heat the axle nut came off in normal operation so the cotter pin failed to hold the nut on for some reason.

Sorry, I don't have Kens gift attaching a Link.

Also, my hubs have bearing buddies, I pumped them full of grease, the hub and bearings had plenty of grease when it failed

Probably a good thing you have that low hanging prop guard.

ken I got the boat running mint here’s a video and some axle pictures. I got the boat home, I had to loosen up the axle u bolts and slide the axle forward for the tire to clear. New bearings are on but it’s a baindaid fix I don’t trust these Chinese bearings. How’s this axle look, not usable?

When it comes to bearings and seals you are better off buying locally.  SKF, Timken, National, BCA, NTN sell first quality bearings with SAE part numbers on them.
National, SKF, Timken, all sell top quality seals, National and SKF MANUFACTURE THEM.

Trailer suppliers sell the Chinese replacement parts in most cases.  Most trailers are not used much so the quality drop off may never be noticed but it is your choice.

If you buy local it is easy to take them back if you get the wrong size.

That is funny, the link worked for Drays garage bearing fix.  I was working in Arkansas in 2013, I called on the manager of a large trucking firm.  As we left the place the man I was working with asks me if I recognized the shop manager.  I did not, he said the guy makes more money with his YouTube videos than he does working the trucking shop.  It was D Ray.  As we drove out we went right past D Rays garage.   I’m a California guy but enjoyed working with all the folks in Arkansas.  We had to cut our work short because a hurricane came in, we flew out right before the airport closed.

Naturally, the Grand Poobah has a handle on it!

I tell ya what though, not necessarily knowing the history of the hubs on my trailer, I’m going to gear-up from e-trailer before spring time!

Damn, forgot to check the link I did myself. Hmmmm....I wonder if there is a character limit on hyperlinks? I say this, as I also pasted that link, from the same copy, into a new window and the video loaded. AND yes, I watched it ;-)

Once you get it home you’ll be able to inspect better. Like was mentioned, you might be needing an axle. I’d think anything else can be straightened out and worst-case, maybe someone to knock out a couple of welds.

Keep us posted.

Mark,
I fought that link several times this morning. I went to Keith's tutorial on posting links without any luck and even deleted the post once and then reposted it. Frustrated to say the least! Thanks for the try and I'm going to try it again myself.

All I can say is something has changed on the site?

Take a close look at the axle where the bearing mount.  If they are ground down or burned blue or black you are looking for a new axle.  Hope you get it fixed quickly.  You might be able to put new well greased bearings on there with a good washer nut and cotter pin and get it home for a real fix or call a slide bed and have them drag your boat and trailer up for a ride home.
