I lived in GA for 28 years and every spring the people who said “you don’t need to winterize in GA “ found themselves in a pickle when they went to go boating. The first boat I bought in GA was from the Gainesville Marina, the previous owner left in dry stack storage and the temperature dropped to -9. Uh oh! Gita helluva deal on it with a new crate motor. Traded it in for a new Ski Ray. The new owner didn’t wiinterize guess what? Threw his money away.
I used to ski every month, I’d drain it every time. What’s 15-20 minutes when your talking big bucks for a new engine. Ski buddy of mine bought a new Mastercraft ProStar in 1998, didn’t drain it. $8,000 later he had a new engine. That light under the cover works great until an ice storms knocks out the power for a couple of days. Believe me there will be power outages when you don’t feel like crushing your knuckles in the dark trying to drain your boat. It just isn’t worth taking a chance.

Throw the ol' under the hood garage light with a 60w incandescent bulb in it under the engine cover down in the bilge. Did for years when temps in GA get into the 20's as I never winterize my boats either.

I happen to agree BUT, John has mentioned it's not that easy to get in and out of his boat anymore. I believe it's his knees? So on John's behalf, he did the quick way that will work.
