Awesome that you got it out without cutting it.

Thanks for the feedback I am pretty much resigned to digging it out like you suggest as there is a lot of corrosion but I thought I would give it a last try worth penetrating oil.and big twist, I have a good grip with the u bolts and a scotch bright and a lot of leverage with a long steel section but still not playing, will try a few thermal shocks with ice on the pylon and heat on the cup before I give up and dig the cup insert out. It would be really useful to know what the insert looks like inside the glass before i start cutting is there a photo anywhere???? |

Ian,
CC didn't do much for corrosion protection especially in a salt environment. Since you mentioned the cup is already moving in the glass at the keel, I'd suggest carefully cutting the layers of glass around the cup. Once the plylon is out, turn it upside down and gett some penetrating oil on the pin. Hopefully after a few days the cup and pin will separate..

I need to get the plyon out from my salt water sport. bolt is out of the cup but there is a lot of corrosion, the cup is moving in the glass base. So too much beating I guess is going to cause more damage.
I'm not really sure what is inside. i see some pics with a steel pin in the middle of the aluminium. anyone have a picture of the stainless cup in the hull. if it is completely corroded and not move what should I do? |
