Trey,
I have a feeling you may need a new pump. It's drawing the amps over what it should and triping the breaker. It runs when connected directly to the battery because there isn't a breaker to trip. The only other problem may be a bad breaker but I suspect the pump to be the problem. You could check amp draw with a VOM ( volt Ohm mete) with a 20 amp setting.

My bilge pump has stopped working due to a possible short in a wire. Pump does work when wired straight to the battery. When the bilge switch is turned on, the ignition light dims and then the circuit breakers pops. Is there a known wiring diagram so i can trace wiring and see what may be wrong? Has anyone else had this issue?
